Frequently Asked Questions
Will any question give a negative answer?
Never. Every question is generated so A > B, ensuring the answer is always a positive whole number. This keeps the game usable at all skill levels.
How does the speed bonus work?
You earn 1 bonus point per second remaining when you answer correctly. On a 10-second timer, answering in 2 seconds earns up to 8 bonus points on top of the base 10.
What number range should I use?
Start with 1–10 for beginners, 1–20 for standard practice, and 10–50 or higher for a challenge. Adjust via Settings or the preset buttons.
Where is my high score stored?
Scores are saved in your browser's localStorage and persist between visits on the same device and browser profile.
How is this different from Mixed Dash?
Subtraction Dash focuses exclusively on subtraction for targeted drill. Mixed Dash combines all four operations (+, −, ×, ÷) in a single session.
Did you know?
The minus sign (−) was first printed in a 1489 German arithmetic book by Johannes Widmann — over 500 years ago.
A common mental subtraction trick: round the subtrahend up to the nearest 10, subtract, then add the difference back. e.g. 63 − 28 = 63 − 30 + 2 = 35.
Subtraction is typically the last of the four basic operations that young children master, often taking an extra year beyond addition.
